Early morning in spring is an ideal time to listen to birds singing, but the amount of different songs and calls can be quite confusing at first. This walk is intended to allow beginners to familiarise themselves with the songs of the more common, resident birds of the Porter Valley. The walk will take in the dawn chorus in the woodland from Wire Mill Dam up to Forge Dam and a little beyond. It will be an easy-going 4 km in total. Wear suitable outdoor clothing. Bring waterproofs and stout footwear and be prepared for a cold morning. No facilities during the walk.

Primary Focus:General Interest, no previous knowledge necessary

Wheelchair/Pushchair Accessible:Yes, but some rough paths around the Forge Dam restoration and weather (snow and ice) dependent

Suitable for Families:Yes, provided children are in the care of an adult
