Update from Sheffield Council regarding the works at Forge Dam.

‘The works to tackle the leak(s) in the Forge Dam ‘dam wall’ will be undertaken shortly.

Esh Construction, specialist contractors, will be undertaking works to improve the condition of the dam wall from the week commencing on the 10^th of August and works are expected to be completed by the end of August (weather dependent).

The goal is to address the leakage rate and thereby retain more water within the dam’s water body, especially during drier spells.

The works will essentially involve creating an aqua dam (in the location of the yellow hashed line in this picture), water between this and the dam wall will be pumped out to create a safe working environment. A full re-pointing of this eastern line of the dam wall will be undertaken with any voids rebuilt.

As indicated in this image, the works will be undertaken in a way that minimises disruption to visitors and the café operations.’

Although many of us are on holiday during August, we intend to monitor progress during the period that the contractors are on-site as best we can. If you are out and about in Forge Dam during the works please let us know if you see anything that you feel needs questioning.
