Clearing the scrub in Endcliffe Park top dam: NETHER SPUR GEAR Dam

A one off additional FoPV conservation morning took place on 2 September in the top dam in Endcliffe Park: hacking back selfset ash and hazel, invasive bramble, nettles, giant thistles, and pendulous sedge. Nether Spur Gear Dam hadn’t had a haircut for years and these plants were happily bedded into the heritage stonework drinking up the water. This clearance will help the contractors carry out the expected river wall repair along that stretch of path.
There is much much more to do in Endcliffe Park (as interested passers by told us!) so we will run more ad hoc work blitzes like this. It was a lovely sunny morning and a thoroughly satisfying job for the 7 of us. When the repairs are done to the adjacent weir and river walls a trim back along the Porter will be needed. Anyone like to join us? All welcome!
