Forge Dam Landslip

The path to the north side of Forge Dam millpond has been closed to the public for safety reasons following a landslip.

The team working at the pond notified the Council this morning that de-silting works had revealed a cavity underneath the tarmac footpath possibly caused historically by nearby tree roots blocking a land - drain which had then allowed water to build up behind the wall. A specialist engineer has assessed the landslip today and the path will remain closed until repairs can be carried out.

Please observe “path closed signs” – these are in place for everyone’s safety.

Cyclists should follow the bridleway diversion.

Pedestrians also follow the bridleway diversion (step free) or take the route to the steps up to Festival Wood and then come down the cobble path or path near the play area to reach the café.
